Tadhg Kennelly will reportedly kit out for his old club Listowel Emmets this weekend.
The Kerryman has taken a flight home to attend a special ceremony recognising his late father tomorrow.
Kennelly will then play for Emmets against Paul Galvin’s Finuge in the North Kerry football championship semi-final on Sunday.
The Irish Examiner reports that a roundabout in Listowel town will be named The Tim Kennelly Roundabout. A commemorative plaque will also be unveiled at tomorrow’s ceremony. The late Tim Kennelly was a five-time All-Ireland winner with Kerry.
Listowel Emmets Chairman Mike Kennelly hopes the retired AFL player’s presence will drive the club to the final.
“It was never planned that Tadhg would be home for the North Kerry semi-final but that’s the way it has worked out. I am hopeful that he will tog out with us. It would be a great boost to the club.
“He has played in nearly all the North Kerry championships over the last 10 years and it would be a great benefit if he could take part because we are going in as underdogs. We need any boost that we can get.”
Kennelly missed out on an AFL Players’ Association Madden Medal award last night.
In this year’s poll retired Geelong premiership captain Cameron Ling came in ahead of Kennelly and fellow nominees Craig Bolton, Barry Hall, Cameron Mooney and Brady Rawlings.
