Kilkenny swept aside Cork yesterday to secure the Allianz League Hurling title for the first time since 2009.
The Cats started in a ruthless fashion, with 2-06 in the first ten minutes, courtesy of captian Eoin Larkin and Colin Fennelly.
The tone had been set and Cork were in a for a fruitless afternoon.
There was little mercy in the Cats’ display. Pat Horgan hit five of Cork’s six points but by half-time they were on the wrong side of a 3-11 to 0-06 scoreline.
The story of Cork’s growth under Jimmy Barry-Murphy is well documented.
However, Barry Cody’s men offered a cold dose of reality despite the injuries that had altered their preferred lineup.
New additions Cillian Buckley, Matthew Ruth and Richie Doyle all put in accomplished performances.
Kilkenny have now won 13 of 21 senior league and championship titles in the past 10 years.
