Aslan’s Oz tour postponed until September

Aslan's tour of Australia has been postponed until September.

Aslan’s tour of Australia, which was due to begin in Perth on Thursday, has been postponed until September as the band became the latest victims of the on-going fallout from the Icelandic volcanic ash eruption.

The Dublin rock band’s seven-date national tour was due to kick off in Rosie O’Grady’s in Perth tomorrow evening but with the disruption caused by the volcanic eruption in Iceland organisers have been forced to postpone the tour.

“The decision was made late last night to postpone the tour,” Fran Daly of tour promoters Troubadour Music told the Echo.

“Management just felt it would be too much of a risk with the uncertainty over flights and such, and we’d already pretty much missed two bookings with all the delays.

“It’s pretty gutting the way it’s worked out but but all we can do is apologise to the fans and do our best to get things together for a September tour with all the same venues, and maybe even a couple of extra ones.

“It’s pretty devastating for us, but all we can do is try and regroup and go at it again in September.”

Elsewhere, Australia’s greatest rock band, Powderfinger, have been forced to delay the opening date of their World Tour which was due to take place in Dublin on Wednesday night.

They will now play that Dublin show on May 31.

“Unfortunately the band are still stuck in Brisbane due to the volcano-caused havoc the world is currently in,” the band said in a statement.

“With no expected flight date forthcoming, we had no option but to postpone.”

Powderfinger’s tour will be their last international shows after the band announced it would be splitting following an Australian tour later this year.
