"The Friends of Vinegar Hill, in association with Blacktown City Council, will hold their annual commemoration of the mass breakout by convicts in 1804. That breakout - by mostly Irish Convicts - and the armed clash with the NSW Corps that followed, came to be known as Australia's Battle of Vinegar Hill (named after a battle in Ireland six years earlier). Our compere for the event will be Mr. Mike Bailey, our main speaker will be Mr. Kerry Myers, a former editor of The Catholic Weekly. Also in attendance will be representatives of the Irish Consul General and Blacktown City Council. The event will include flag risings and anthems, and will conclude about 12:30pm, with light refreshments.  Contact - John Flavin, chairman, Friends of Vinegar Hill - 02 9627 6545
